Greening aviation in Canada

From 2008 to 2017, the aviation industry in Canada improved its fuel efficiency by 15.6%.

Without this improvement, the industry would have emitted an additional 3.88 Megatonnes of greenhouse gas in 2017.

This is equal to emissions from 970,000 cars driven in one year.

THE AVIATION INDUSTRY IS BECOMING GREENER IN CANADA BY:

  • buying new aircraft and upgrading fleets
  • pre-cooling and heating aircraft at the terminal
  • looking at ways to add sustainable aviation fuel to the supply chain
  • switching to electric baggage loaders and ground equipment
  • implementing carbon management plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from airports
  • installing charging stations for electric vehicles
  • managing air traffic to save fuel
