Port Amalgamation

Port Amalgamation

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority

The federal government has approved the amalgamation of the Port Authorities of Fraser River, North Fraser, and Vancouver to continue as Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. The amalgamation is being undertaken in coordination with the three port authorities and will take effect on January 1, 2008.

The amalgamation of the three Canada Port Authorities is a key policy measure under the Government of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative. Through an integrated package of investment and policy measures, the Initiative seeks to boost Canada’s commerce with the Asia-Pacific Region, increase the Gateway’s share of container imports from Asia, and improve the efficiency and reliability of the Gateway for exports.

The amalgamated port will be well positioned to contribute to this Initiative’s objectives through better coordination on port planning and the opening up of new investment opportunities that will facilitate the circulation of goods to and from foreign markets.

Transport Canada has launched this website to provide information concerning the amalgamation and the federal amalgamation process as well as an opportunity for visitors to register with the federal government their views or questions with respect to the amalgamation. Visit this website regularly for new information and updates.

Information specific to the operational or business aspects of the amalgamation may be found at the Lower Mainland Port Amalgamation Website hosted by the Fraser River, North Fraser, and Vancouver Port Authorities.*
