Policy Group
Along with its other research activities, the department carries out research relating to transportation by road and rail, including research into the transportation of dangerous goods by these means. Results contribute to the development of good government policy in these areas. For example, Transport Canada assesses the potential benefits of emerging transportation technologies, taking into consideration their safety, efficiency and environmental effects. It also promotes the design and development of buses, trucks and trains that are more energy-efficient and less damaging to infrastructure.
