What is the Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy?

Transport Canada’s Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy describes:

  • Our sustainable development context and vision;
  • The actions we will undertake over a three-year period to support the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy; and
  • The ways we have integrated a sustainable development approach into our departmental policies, plans and decision-making.

The Government of Canada’s 2019 to 2022 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy

As per the Federal Sustainable Development Act, Transport Canada is required to:

  • Create a new Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy every three years; and
  • Update our three-year Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy annually.

The 2019 to 2022 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy was tabled in Parliament in June 2019. This is the Government of Canada’s fourth strategy and focuses on thirteen aspirational goals, with supporting targets and actions. These goals promote clean growth, ensure healthy ecosystems and build safe, secure and sustainable communities.

The Federal Sustainable Development Strategy also demonstrates federal leadership towards implementing the environmentally-related global United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
