Transport Canada (TC) is responsible for transportation policies and programs. We promote a safe and secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible transportation system.
Our social media accounts are extensions of the Government of Canada websites. We use them to connect with people, answer questions, and share information with Canadians at home and abroad.
By engaging with our content or participating in discussions on our channels, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
Content
TC's social media accounts are a great way to interact with the department and learn about transportation standards, best practices, and your rights and responsibilities in Canada’s transportation sector.
We may also share content posted by Industry, Governments (federal, provincial, and territorial), Crown corporations, international partners, and organizations determined to be relevant to our mandate and of importance to Canadians.
We look forward to sharing information with you beyond the usual government web experience, but always encourage visits to our website for more detailed information.
Frequency
Social media content is typically issued Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST/EDT. As needed, social media content may be scheduled for publication over the weekend and holidays.
Non-scheduled communications activity during holidays, after core hours, and on weekends is generally reserved for emergencies, items of an urgent nature, or of significant value to our followers. Otherwise, TC accounts will be relatively inactive during these times.
Monitoring
Our accounts are monitored Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST/EDT. Questions or comments posted outside of these hours will be addressed on the next business day.
Comments and interactions
We welcome diverse opinions in the form of respectful and relevant interactions. Your comments are welcome at any time, and we will participate in discussions when appropriate.
The use of social media by TC is intended to encourage interaction between the users of these platforms and our department. We do not endorse any of the views in comments posted by users. We moderate during business hours and may block users, and/or hide or remove comments that:
- contain personal information
- violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
- are racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, or threatening
- make unproven accusations
- are aggressive, violent, obscene, or pornographic
- are offensive or abusive
- promote illegal activity
- are not in English or French
- are irrelevant, repetitive, or spam
- spread misinformation or disinformation
We are committed to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment and actively monitor comments on our posts for compliance with these guidelines. TC reserves the right to turn off the comments section, at any time, based on violations of the criteria mentioned above.
If you come across any disrespectful content, remember that social media platforms offer tools to report it. We work to foster a safe online space for everyone.
Privacy
Please do not share personal information about yourself or others in public comments. For specific concerns, contact us through a private message.
In accordance with the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act, the information you give to TC will only be shared with another government department if your question or request is about that department.

Official languages
The Official Languages Act (OLA) ensures respect for English and French as the official languages of Canada.
To ensure compliance with the OLA, TC social media publications are provided in both English and French, of equal quality. Users are encouraged to comment in their preferred official language. TC will answer comments and questions in the same language they were asked.
Users can access Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube pages in either of Canada's official languages. The interface language for the user's account is based on their preferences in the settings, which may be changed at any time by modifying their user settings.
TC may refer to external sources that are not subject to the Official Languages Act. The Department offers links to these sources as a service to users, even if they are only available in one official language. If the web page is unilingual, TC will try to provide a link or equivalent content in the other language. Links to unilingual content will state "in English only” or “in French only.”
Accessibility
We strive to achieve a high standard of accessibility as defined in the Standard on Web Accessibility and the Standard on Optimizing Websites and Applications for Mobile Devices.
Posts on TC’s social media accounts include links to accessible web content. It is important to note that Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and third-party service providers, are not bound by the Government of Canada’s web accessibility policies.
