Notice to:
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence Applicants and Holders
Subject:
Experience being claimed by AME licence applicants during the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS).
Purpose:
This notice provides information on claiming aviation maintenance experience in support of obtaining an AME licence or additional rating while the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) was in place between March 15, 2020, to October 23, 2021.
Interim changes:
AME licence applicants employed by companies who qualified for the CEWS may have, at different times and at the discretion of their employer, been placed on leave with pay, may have had their employment status changed from full-time to part-time or may have continued to be employed on a full-time basis while still performing maintenance on aeronautical products.
As part of meeting the experience requirement in accordance with paragraph 566.03(4)(d) and subsection 566.03(9) of the Airworthiness Manual Chapter 566, applicants who claim experience between March 15, 2020 and October 23, 2021 will be required to provide additional supporting documentation to confirm their employment status during the CEWS claim period.
An example of additional supporting documentation may include a formal declaration in writing from the applicant’s employer stating that the employee was or was not performing maintenance on aeronautical products during the claim period of the CEWS, including specifics on their employment status (e.g., full-time, part-time, or on leave with pay), the duration of any changes to their employment status, and whether or not they were gaining maintenance experience during that period.
The additional supporting documentation will ensure proper calculation of total, specialty and civil experience being claimed by an applicant applicable to the AME licence rating sought in accordance with the requirements in Airworthiness Manual Chapter 566.
This Notice will be in effect until December 31st, 2024.
