Overview
TP 4957 describes the details of the training courses through which seafarer will be able to acquire the skills to safely cope with the hazards associated with the marine environment and with their vessel to a level appropriate to their functions on board; By successfully doing these training courses, seafarers will be able to comply with the required standards to meet mandatory minimum requirements for:
- safety familiarization training for all seafarers;
- training in advanced fire fighting for seafarers designated to control fire fighting operations; and
- knowledge of how to launch and take charge of a survival craft in emergency situations.

This TP is for current seafarers, maritime training providers, other internal, and external stakeholders as well as the public interested in knowing the details of the standards for the applicable training courses that need to be completed to obtain the applicable certificates, as required under the Marine Personnel Regulation, to work onboard vessels in domestic as well as non-domestic waters.
