Subject: Notice to Shipmasters Loading Coalship

Further to Ship Safety Bulletin no. 04/96 the revision of TP 10944 "Notice to Shipmasters Loading Coal" is completed. The new publication incorporates the amendments made to the coal entry in the IMO Code of Safe Practice for Solid Bulk Cargoes ( BC Code). These instructions apply to all ships in Canadian ports and to Canadian ships in all waters.

All ships loading coal in Canada will be inspected by Transport Canada, Marine Safety inspectors prior to their first loading and at least once a year. Canadian registered ships may elect to have this inspection done during the annual inspection.
