Bulletin No.: 06/1996

Date (Y-M-D): 1996-06-12

Subject: Corrosion and Leakage of Gas Cylinders in Tul Liferafts

Your attention is drawn to several undercharged cylinders noticed at inflation during servicing of TUL Liferafts. Corrosion around the neck of the cylinders, failure of the "O" ring, and an expired Hydro test appear to be the causes of leakage leading to loss of pressure in the Kelvar enveloped aluminium cylinders.

Users and service stations are required to pay particular attention to these defects during use and every time TUL Liferafts come up for servicing. Anything out of the ordinary noticed should be brought to the attention of the Ship Safety office.

Also for your information, approval of Northwest Aero Marine in Vancouver for servicing of TUL-liferafts has not been renewed since its expiry on November 07, 1995. This facility may not be used for servicing of TUL Liferafts.
