Subject: Halon Fire Extinguishing Systems Servicing, Re-Cycling and Banking Facilities in Canada
This Bulletin replaces Bulletin No. 17/1996 and has been replaced by Bulletin No. 01/2004.
This Ship Safety Bulletin is to give an update to the marine industry and fire protection community nationally and internationally on Recognized Halon service agencies in Canada.
The International Maritime Organization ( IMO ) Secretariat has requested Member Governments to submit details of the Halon banking facilities established under their jurisdiction. Such details will assist ship operators in arranging the deposit of decommissioned Halons or the purchase of re-cycled Halons. The attached lists will be submitted later this year to IMO. Canada's previous list was submitted to IMO in 1996. Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada ( ULC ) is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada to develop Standards for Fire Protection Equipment.
ULC has listed and certified the Halon re-cycling, banking and servicing agencies in Canada. These agencies have a large stock of Halon available for international and domestic ships. The IMO consolidated listing of international Halon banking and reception facilities up to the year 2000 can be found on our website, and all requests for related information may be addressed by e-mail to shipshape@tc.gc.ca
