Mandatory recognition program for approved ship security training courses
Transport Canada’s mandatory recognition program for approved ship security training courses aims to ensure that marine security training courses offered by various providers meet the course content requirements as called for in the Marine Transportation Security Regulations and the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW 2010) Code. There are three (3) modules for training institutions that are part of the Recognition Program for Approved Ship Security Training Courses:
- Ship Security Officer (SSO)
- Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities (VPWSR)
- Vessel Personnel without Security Responsibilities (VPWOSR)

Testimonial for seafarers with and without security responsibilities
The Marine Transportation Security Regulations published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on April 27, 2013, permits seafarers with and without security responsibilities who meet certain conditions to complete a testimonial.
