Policy-based grant component

The Indigenous Participant Funding Program (IPFP) funds projects and initiatives designed to increase the capacity of Indigenous communities and organizations to participate in Canadian Navigable Waters Act and Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act processes.

The policy-based component aims to build capacity and create opportunities for Indigenous communities and organizations to gather information and provide their views to inform the development of policies concerning the implementation of the Canadian Navigable Waters Act and the Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act.

Who is eligible

You may be eligible for the policy-component of the IPFP grant funding program if you are or represent a(n):

  • Indigenous government, Tribal council or other form of regional government
  • Nationally or regionally representative Indigenous organization
  • Indigenous development corporation
  • Indigenous Community, Band, or Settlement
  • District Council, Chiefs’ Council, or Tribal Council
  • Indigenous Association, Organization or Society
  • Indigenous Commission ,Council, Authority or Board
  • Indigenous Economic Institution, Organization, Corporation, or Co-operative
  • Partnership or aggregation of Indigenous communities or organizations

Eligible activities

Grants may be provided to fund the following eligible activities so long as the proposed activity directly contributes to one or more of the program objectives. Activities could include:

  • Coordinating local engagement activities and/or meetings
  • Reviewing documents and providing written comments
  • Preparing for, travelling to and participating in meetings
  • Hiring expertise or conducting studies
