As part of its mandate, the TSB may decide to make safety recommendations (either final or interim) directed at TC during or following a class-2 investigation. The Minister receives these recommendations, which are then reviewed and carefully considered by the department. Rail recommendations are handled by TC's Rail Safety Directorate as well as the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate, when required. A response to the Board is written and submitted to the Minister for his signature. Pursuant to ss. 26(4) of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act (CTAISB Act), the Minister must respond to the Board within 90 days from receipt of a recommendation.
