Issue:
When using the infant restraint as a carrier outside of the vehicle, the handle may move out of the locked position allowing an unrestrained infant to fall out of the carrier.

Background & Company Action:
Transport Canada began receiving complaints from the public concerning the handle collapse in January 2006. Due to the number of complaints being received, a major investigation was opened in October 2006. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States opened a similar investigation. Evenflo announced its intention to undertake a voluntary safety campaign on May 8, 2007. The company is offering, free of charge, a fix kit consisting of instructions, two new triggers for handle adjustment and a tool required to remove the old triggers and insert the new triggers. In addition, a video is available on-line to assist consumers. Registered owners will be advised by Evenflo directly.

Safety Risk:
This issue is not related to its use in a vehicle. When carrying the restraint outside of the vehicle, consumers must ensure that the harness system is snugly adjusted to prevent any ejection of the infant. Even then, until a fix kit is received and the necessary changes are made, consumers should not carry the restraint by the handle.

Consumer Recourse:
Consumers may call the Evenflo Company, Inc. helpline at 1-800-490-7497 to request a free fix kit for their restraint system. In addition, consumers may visit the dedicated web site www.embracehandle.com to order a fix kit and view a "how to" video.
