Problem:
Two alignment posts (see attached photograph) in the base portion of the restraint system can potentially degrade causing the infant restraint not to sit properly on the base during use.
Background:
Evenflo began an investigation in January, 2000 concerning the splaying (deformation) of two alignment posts located on the Position Right base. Evenflo determined that the splaying of the posts over time would cause the consumer to place the On My Way infant restraint at a significantly skewed angle. Evenflo stopped shipment of the restraint in February until a fix for the problem could be determined while the issue was investigated and a fix implemented on new production. A meeting was held with Transport Canada to discuss the problem and the fix. Shipment of the infant restraints with the Position Right base resumed February 23, 2000. Evenflo has contacted the retail outlets to arrange the re-working replacement of the restraints in the stores with new production stock.
Consumer Action & Recourse:
Consumers are to contact Evenflo at the toll free number (1-800-316-4779) to receive a fix kit consisting of alignment post clips. There have been no reported incidence in either Canada or the United States. Transport Canada and Evenflo recommend that before using the infant carrier with the base, that the alignment posts be checked for any splaying. If splaying is evident, then it is recommended that the On My Way infant restraint be used without the base until the fix kit is received and the fix installed.
