Issue and Background:

5514 KM Corporation and Transport Canada wish to inform the public about the availability of revised instructions for certain Ferrari Befix high back booster seats. These booster seats were available in two different shoulder belt guide configurations, either with a simple U-shaped slot or with a Z-shaped slot. The shoulder belt guides are located on the underside of the booster seat's head support and help to properly position the vehicle shoulder belt across the child occupant's chest and collarbone.

Figure 1. Location of the Shoulder Belt Guides

It is possible that the labels affixed to, and the English and French instruction manuals provided with the booster seats did not outline the proper shoulder belt guide configuration. Without the correct instructions, it may be possible to have the vehicle shoulder belt routed incorrectly, preventing the belt from sliding freely in the guide. The revised instructions clarify the correct routing of the vehicle shoulder belt through the shoulder belt guide. Transport Canada's defect investigations program identified this issue after receiving a consumer complaint.

Company Action:

5514 KM Corporation has revised the instruction page to ensure that the instructions clearly describe the vehicle shoulder belt routing process.

Instructions: Thread shoulder belt into the inner slot of Booster Shoulder Belt Guide located on the underside of the Head Support. Slide shoulder belt into open end of slot.

5514 KM Corporation will contact all registered owners and provide them with an updated instruction page with the vehicle shoulder belt routing process. The updated instruction page will also be posted on the Car Seat Group website for download.

Consumer Recourse:

5514 KM Corporation and Transport Canada encourage parents and caregivers to check that the configuration of the shoulder belt guide matches with the instructions found on the labels and in the manuals provided with their booster seat. In case of a discrepancy, parents and caregivers should contact 5514 KM Corporation to register and obtain the revised instruction page. The affected booster seats can continue to be used safely as long as the proper instructions are being followed. The affected seats should not be returned to retailers or the company.

All non-registered consumers or consumers who have moved are encouraged to contact 5514 KM Corporation (Car Seat Group) by email or phone, listed below.
