Issue:
Certain Graco TurboBooster booster seats do not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The instruction manual does not contain a statement indicating that the booster seat, even when unoccupied, must be firmly secured to the vehicle, which is a requirement under the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations. Graco has determined that the issue is specific to certain products manufactured on the dates mentioned above.
The model number, model name and date of manufacture can be found on the underside of the car seat. A picture of a sample label is provided below.
Safety Risk:
In the event of a vehicle crash, an unoccupied and unsecured booster seat may strike other occupants and cause injury.
Company Action:
Transport Canada and Graco have actively investigated the issue. Graco has instituted a production change, and they will contact all registered consumers to provide them with revised instructions.
Consumer Recourse:
All registered owners will receive a letter indicating how they can download the revised instruction manual. The missing instructions and/or revised instructions manual will be sent to affected consumers who register online at www.gracobaby.ca.
Non-registered owners, or owners who have moved, should contact the Canadian importer and distributor, Elfe Juvenile Products, at 1-800-667-8184 or service@gracobaby.ca to obtain the missing instructions and/or revised instruction manual or if they have any questions.
Consumers should always ensure that booster seats are installed in their vehicle securely, even when not in use. In a crash, an unsecured booster seat could strike an occupant, potentially causing injury.
