The presence of wildlife in the vicinity of airports poses a safety risk for aircraft and their passengers and crew. Wildlife on runways can interfere with aircraft ground maneuvers and birds in the air can interfere with aircraft that are landing or taking off.
We require airports to implement wildlife control measures to discourage wildlife from seeking food, water, and shelter on or near airport property. This requirement is based on Standard 322, Division III – Airport Wildlife Planning and Management of Part III of the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
In particular, airports must develop and implement an airport wildlife management plan.
