1.0 INTRODUCTION

This Advisory Circular (AC) is provided for information and guidance purposes. It may describe an example of an acceptable means, but not the only means, of demonstrating compliance with regulations and standards. This AC on its own does not change, create, amend or permit deviations from regulatory requirements, nor does it establish minimum standards.

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide a table of concordance that shows how the system of Regulations and Standards that existed in Part V—Airworthiness of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) up to December 1, 2009, were dispositioned to become the new Part V Subpart 21 of the CARs.

1.2 Applicability

This document applies to Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) personnel, delegates, and the aviation industry.

1.3 Description of Changes

Not applicable.

2.0 REFERENCES AND REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Reference Documents

It is intended that the following reference materials be used in conjunction with this document:

  1. Part V, Subpart 21 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs)—Approval of the Type Design or a Change to the Type Design of an Aeronautical Product.

2.2 Cancelled Documents

Not applicable.

3.0 BACKGROUND

  1. As of December 1, 2009 the Canadian Aviation Regulations and related Standards have been amended to provide a new consolidated structure of requirements that govern the approval of the type design of an aeronautical product and changes to the type design of an aeronautical product. This has been accomplished by creating a new regulation under Part V in which requirements taken from a number of existing Part V Airworthiness Regulations, Standards and Chapters of the Airworthiness Manual (AWM) have been regrouped under a single Subpart, Subpart 21.

  2. The tables below will enable the reader to quickly find references between the previous regulations and standards to the present ones. More detailed references and explanations will be provided in the next revision of this document.

4.0 CANADIAN AVIATION REGULATIONS 521 STRUCTURE

  1. CAR 521 is organized into eleven Divisions, as follows:

    1. Division I—General.

    2. Division II—Type Certificates.

    3. Division III—Canadian Technical Standard Order (CAN-TSO) Design Approvals.

    4. Division IV—Changes to a Type Design.

    5. Division V—Supplemental Type Certificates.

    6. Division VI—Repair Design Approvals.

    7. Division VII—Part Design Approvals.

    8. Division VIII—Responsibilities of a Design Approval Document Holder.

    9. Division IX—Service Difficulty Reporting.

    10. Division X—Airworthiness Directives.

    11. Division XI—Foreign Aeronautical Products.

5.0 TABLES OF CONCORDANCE

5.1 CAR Subpart 511 and Chapter 511 of the AWM

The following tables correlate previous references/differences found between CAR Subpart 511 and AWM 511 with the new CAR Subpart 521. The tables also identify where some information in Car Subpart 511 and AWM 511 are now contained in guidance material. The next revision of this document will give details on the exact document they have been transferred to.
