Purpose:
The purpose of this CASA is to provide awareness to Operators and Maintenance personnel of a potential risk of electrocution/electric shock when servicing the potable water tank on the Bombardier Inc. (BA) model CL-600-2B16 (604 Variant), Challenger 605.
Background:
Two incidents have been reported in which maintenance personnel received electric shocks while carrying out maintenance on the Challenger 605. The maintenance staff were injured when they came in contact with an exposed electrical connection on the baggage compartment heater thermostat S1001HM (see Figure 1).
The terminals of the Baggage Compartment Heater thermostat are located on the water tank FWD access door, which is normally only accessed by maintenance personnel during maintenance activities.
BA has issued recommended service bulletin (SB) 605-21-006, which provides instructions to apply adhesive sealant on the end terminals of the baggage compartment heater thermostat, Part Number 2511L010−1658 (Ident S1001HM), installed on the water system access panel door.
