Funding for activities related to remotely piloted aircraft systems and connected and automated vehicles |

This funding is to maintain regulatory and technical activities related to Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) safety and security, divided as follows:
The operating funding will maintain current activities, as well as key positions and expertise in these fast-growing sectors. More specifically:
The contribution funding is for the Enhanced Road Safety Transfer Payment Program to support road safety innovation and the national adoption of road safety best practices. |

Funding for the Eastern Canada Ferry Services |

Transport Canada is seeking access to unused funding from 2021-22 for the continued delivery of safe and reliable ferry services in Eastern Canada, divided as follows:
The Capital will be used to address current requirements for terminal and vessel fit-up and dredging related to the acquisition of the MV Madeleine II and advance key design and other work for the replacement vessels for the MV Madeleine and MV Holiday Island. The Contribution funding is necessary to address a significant increase in costs (e.g., fuel and labor costs) and lower revenues due to the lingering impacts of COVID-19 on passenger traffic. |

Funding for the maintenance of Crown owned airports and the Port of Cap-aux-Meules |

TC is the owner-operator of 18 regional and remote airports, as well as 34 public port facilities. These facilities are critical to local communities, where many represent the only reliable year-round form of transportation for passengers, goods and medical supplies. Overall, TC received $254.7M over 6 years starting in 2022-23 to undertake urgent, large-scale health and safety projects at eight TC-owned airports and the reconstruction of the Fishers’ Wharf at Cap-aux-Meules, QC. To undertake these health and safety investments, TC is seeking access to $10,023,548 in funding for the current fiscal year, divided as follow:

Funding to strengthen the resiliency and efficiency of Canada’s supply chains (Budget 2022) |

This funding is to improve the efficiency and resiliency of Canada’s supply chains and will help alleviate congestion and bottlenecks in our supply chains, build internal trade corridors, and strengthen Canada’s connections to global markets. The $603.2M over 5 years announced from Budget 2022 will be invested to support three main activities:

Funding to accelerate the deployment of on-road zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in the transportation sector (Budget 2022) |

This funding is for new measures under Canada’s integrated strategy for decarbonizing on-road transportation and focusing on accelerating the deployment of zero-emission technologies in the Canadian medium- and heavy-duty on-road vehicle sector:

Funding to continue strengthening environmental protections and addressing concerns raised by Indigenous groups regarding the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (horizontal item) |

To support the Government of Canada’s continued implementation of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMX), TC is seeking access to $1.6M in funding. The objectives of the program are to continue TC’s support of the project’s Indigenous Advisory Monitoring Committee, and more broadly, fulfill the commitments enshrined in the Governor in Council’s approval of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project in June 2019, including responses to recommendations from the Canada Energy Regulator. |

Funding for advancing a circular economy for plastics in Canada (Budget 2022) |

The objective of this initiative is to contribute to keeping plastics in the economy and out of the environment. I will be done expanding knowledge on plastics, developing and implementing management measures, supporting innovation and market transformation and reducing plastic pollution and waste from federal operations. TC’s measures will help protect, conserve, and revitalize the oceans. The establishment of an evidence-based policy framework to address marine plastic litter from ships will benefit all Canadians by facilitating and promoting actions supporting the prevention and reduction of marine plastic pollution. |

Funding for the resettlement of Afghan refugees (Budget 2022) |

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) selects foreign nationals as permanent residents and temporary residents , promotes the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship, and offers Canada’s protection to refugees through both the asylum and resettlement programs. TC’s role is to support IRCC in managing the movement of the Afghan Refugees to Canada. TC will be conducting on-site aviation security assessments and oversight at last points of departure from which Afghan refugee flights will depart to ensure that those flights are protected from acts of unlawful interference. |

The Clean Transportation System – Research and Development (CTS-RD) Program is seeking access to $120,000 in funding. The objective of the CTS-RD Program is to promote a clean transportation system by reducing air pollutants and/or greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation, marine and rail sectors. The funds will support a project aimed at improving the availability of data to support future assessments of the impacts of greenhouse gas emission reduction measures. |

The total of $20,000,000 in planned spending is a reallocation of Ocean Protection Plan (OPP) funding from the Operating vote to the Grants & Contributions vote. This transfer of funding will support the Minister’s September 29, 2022 announcement of direct support for Indigenous partnerships in the Oceans Protection Plan. The funding will be open to Indigenous communities and organizations, and can be used to support capacity for their continued involvement in:

Funding from the Department of the Environment to Via Rail Canada Inc. to support VIA Rail Canada Inc.’s Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan remediation activities |

VIA’s objective regarding the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) remediation activities is to progressively reduce contamination levels at its facilities, which have accumulated over decades of use as a train yard. The FCSAP funds are being used to reduce the overall amount of contamination on VIA’s most impacted sites. Contaminated soil is being removed, which reduces environmental and human health risks and associated financial liabilities. VIA has many commercial, industrial and residential neighbours, and the FCSAP funding allows VIA to create a safer, cleaner environment in the areas where it works. |
