I’m a passenger

Every year, air-taxi operators in Canada provide flights to thousands of passengers across the country. Air taxis often operate in remote environments with less infrastructure than at large airports and need to follow strict regulations.

The air taxi sector provides a wide range of air services to Canadians, including:

  • helicopters that transport injured or ill patients to hospitals
  • floatplanes that take passengers from harbour to harbour in coastal cities, and
  • airplanes that bring workers to remote areas, provide search and rescue, or deliver food, equipment, and passengers to communities

Only certain type of aircraft can be used as air-taxis. These aircraft are:

  • Single-engine aircraft

  • Multi-engine aircraft (but not turbo-jet planes) that have a maximum take-off weight of 8,618 kg (19,000 lbs) and carry a maximum of 9 people excluding pilot seats

  • Multi-engine helicopter

Here are examples of environments where air-taxis can fly to and from:
