[Various speakers:]

I find myself extremely fortunate to have found this job.

It’s enjoyable to come to work and have conversations with people who share the same passion as I do.

You can really see, like, those tangible effects of the work that you do.

Transport Canada really does support innovation.

I’m happy because everyone here is really nice. What matters most for me is the people I work with.

It’s a fascinating job. It allows us to see many countries and meet many people.

We use that same passion to make Canada’s road safer.

People don’t really realize how much opportunity there is here, and if you have something that you’re passionate about, you can absolutely find it.

What this job has really offered me is the ability to have a work-life balance, to have flexible work arrangements, and the ability to truly unplug after hours.

At Transport Canada, I’ve had managers that have seen my worth, and they’ve really pushed me to be a better inspector and just go to the goals that I want to achieve.

We’ve always been supported by the various directors we’ve had. It’s really important for us to have a work environment that’s inclusive, diverse, and positive.

To do this job, you need to really care about providing a service to Canadians that might go unseen. I love my job.

Transport Canada is not just about health and safety, innovation, and environmental protection; it also has an impact on the daily lives of Canadians.

Unique and interesting work

Transport Canada has one of the largest and most diverse portfolios in the federal public service. For our employees, this means that their career options are almost endless. From trains, to car seats, to protecting marine life such as whales, to supporting Indigenous pathways, our work is interesting, challenging, and unique. It's a chance to work on emerging transportation issues which have a direct impact on Canadians across the country.

Work-life balance

Leaders at Transport Canada encourage and model behaviors that support employees in adopting flexible work arrangements and disconnecting outside of work hours. Where operationally feasible, flexible work arrangements can help employees achieve a balance between their work requirements and personal lives, which can help foster an agile and high-performing workforce. Flexible work arrangements at Transport Canada may include:

  • telework up to 2 days per week
  • flexible work hours, and
  • variable work schedules

Furthermore, there are various types of leave options (with and without pay), including sick leave, family-related leave and leave to engage in traditional Indigenous practices, in accordance with collective agreements.

Leaders who support you

At Transport Canada, you’ll find leaders that encourage and support employees to be their best selves. Supervisors and managers are approachable and committed to creating a psychologically safe and healthy workplace that values respect, equity, diversity and inclusion for their employees.
