Mandate:
Canadian Air Transport Security Authority's (CATSA's) mandate is to take necessary action, either directly or through a screening contractor, for the effective and efficient screening of persons who access aircraft or restricted areas of airports through screening points; the property in their possession or control; and the belongings or baggage that they give to an air carrier for transport.
Canadian Air Transport Security Authority's responsibilities fall into four major areas:
- Pre-board screening of passengers and their belongings
- Hold baggage screening through explosives detection systems at airports
- Non-passenger screening of those entering restricted airport areas
- Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) implementation and management
