The Communications Group is responsible for Transport Canada’s (TC) internal and external departmental communications. We also serve as liaison between the Ministers’ Office, senior management, the Privy Council Office and the Treasury Board Secretariat to ensure effective communications. The group helps TC develop effective and responsible communications strategies and products such as news releases, statements and Ministerial speeches. They offer planning and implementation support for Ministerial events and announcements. The group also manages media relations and inquiries, as well as TC’s web and social media presence. They provide services such as public opinion research and consultations, graphic design and video production, and coordinate the department’s visual identity and advertising. The group also provides advice and support with respect to communications with TC employees, as well as corporate messages on behalf of the Deputy Ministers and the Minister.

The Communications Branch provides the following key services:  

  • Provision of strategic communications advice and support for external and corporate initiatives;
  • Development of communications products (e.g., news releases, statements);
  • Media relations (e.g. inquiries and interviews);
  • Social media and traditional media;
  • Event planning;
  • Ministerial speeches;
  • Visual support for Ministerial events;
  • Web; 
  • Video production, photography services and in-house studio recordings; and
  • Internal and corporate messages.

  • The point of contact for all media inquiries

Social Media and Media Monitoring

  • Social media channels are used to communicate transportation safety and security messages, and departmental messages about our policies and programs. They are also used to issue ministerial statements, news releases, and media advisories. Further, this group distributes daily news and social media clipping packages.

This team manages the department’s website and intranet site and ensures compliance with Government of Canada policies and web standards, and leads the Transport & Infrastructure theme page as part of the government-wide www.canada.ca web presence.

Visual identify, public opinion research and consultations

  • Oversees Transport Canada’s visual identity and coordinates Transport Canada’s public opinion research and consultation activities, including surveys, focus groups, and the Let’s Talk Transportation platform. It manages the department’s various outreach and advertising initiatives.
