Why register with CANUTEC
Section 3.5 of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations requires consignors (a person who ships or imports dangerous goods) to place a 24-hour emergency telephone number on shipping documents for dangerous goods. Registration with CANUTEC gives the right to use our 24-hour emergency number on shipping documents. It also makes our technical assistance immediately available in the event of an incident. CANUTEC services are free of charge to Canadian companies. Maintaining a registration requires an annual account review and update.
Who may register with CANUTEC
Any Canadian consignor of dangerous goods may register with CANUTEC. Registration does not apply to carriers (i.e. freight forwarders, transport companies, etc.) unless they are also a consignor on the shipping document. Manufacturers may also register with CANUTEC as a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Provider. An SDS Provider submits their company’s SDS on behalf of other consignors. SDS Providers are not authorized to use CANUTEC’s 24-hour emergency telephone number on shipping documents.
