Notice to:
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence Holders
Subject:
Exemption NCR-053-2021 for AME licences expiring during the COVID-19 pandemic situation
Purpose:
Due to circumstances related to COVID-19 and the health risk to the public, Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) has issued a new exemption NCR-053-2021 affecting AME licence holders with licence expiry dates between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2022.
This notice is an update to the notice dated February 22, 2021 on the same subject, to advise of the new exemption and to provide information on the interim changes to the renewal process.
Interim changes:
Exemption
The exemption allows for AME licence holders whose licence will expire or has expired between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2022 to continue to hold a valid licence and exercise the privileges of their licence after the expiry date shown on their licence.
The new exemption NCR-053-2021 expires on July 31, 2022.
TCCA does not anticipate reissuing the exemption following its expiry.
After the expiration of the exemption, licences that expired under the exemption will be treated as reissues in accordance with paragraph 566.03(12)(a) of Chapter 566 of the AWM.
Renewals
Despite the current circumstances, TCCA continues to accept and process AME licence renewals and print the credit card style AME licence. TCCA recommends using the exemption only if required.
To renew your AME licence, TCCA recommends completing the application form 24-0083 electronically and pay the required renewal fee of $40 by using the online payment service. AMEs can send their application and proof of payment by email to the TCCA office in your region:
