Validation of a foreign approval to get a Canadian approval or acceptance
The design approval must be validated by Transport Canada to:
- import an aircraft initially approved by an airworthiness authority other than Transport Canada into Canada
- install a component or modification initially approved by an airworthiness authority other than Transport Canada on a Canadian registered aircraft
Canada has bilateral agreements and arrangements with some countries to facilitate validation of approvals. If the initial issuing authority has an agreement, arrangement, or procedure with Canada, follow the instructions within that agreement for validation of approvals.
The level of review required by Transport Canada will depend on the agreement between Canada and the certifying authority for the initial approval.
