Summary: State Safety Programme training

Government and aviation industry partners have shared safety responsibilities.

Although, industry partners will continue with SMS and government will coordinate SSP, both will need to collaborate to achieve a successful SSP and a safer aviation system. This will mean transparency and reporting so that safety experts can make proactive safety decisions to reduce incidents and mitigate identified risks.

Canada also has international responsibilities. As a member of ICAO, Transport Canada will lead SSP to continuously improve safety in Canada but will also have a role to promote safety world-wide through our work with ICAO.

We know that air traffic is getting busier, and although accidents are decreasing, we can’t be complacent.

If we are committed to maintaining our safety record, we must evolve beyond reacting to accidents and fixing technical problems.

It is only by working together that we’ll be able to achieve SSP.
