State Safety Programme (SSP) is a set of standards and activities aimed at improving global aviation safety. The programme describes how the different States (countries) will manage safety throughout their aviation system.
Civil aviation workers need to become familiar with SSP, as detailed in ICAO’s Annex 19 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation in Chapter 3.1. If we are to ensure safety in our rapidly developing global air transportation system, we’ll need a program dedicated to safety management functions – Annex 19.
This online self-paced course (approximately 30 minutes) is for Transport Canada Civil Aviation employees. It is also open to other government departments and private companies working in aviation safety.
It provides the basics of civil aviation safety for non-experts, and an introduction to the SSP that includes:
- civil aviation governance
- ICAO’s role in a SSP
- Safety Management Systems (SMS)
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- explain the purpose of the SSP
- define the role of your organization in the SSP
- explain the difference between SMS and SSP
- state the benefits of the SSP
