The purpose of this exemption is to allow graduates of CPL(A)IR and ATP(A) integrated courses to apply for the commercial pilot licence-aeroplane when the 12 month time limit after the successful completion of the flight test has passed. These courses are approved with prescriptive time limits of 12 to 36 months and graduates are prevented from applying for the licence until they have received a course completion certificate. Within the structure of these courses, the most logical and appropriate placement of the commercial pilot licence flight test is not necessarily within the twelve month period prior to licence application.

As Air Canada is introducing a new aircraft to its fleet, on which pilots have no previous experience, crew pairing restrictions will be exempted until such time as Air Canada’s pool of pilots who have completed their consolidation period on the B777 is sufficiently large to allow pilots who have not completed their consolidation period to be paired with those who have completed their consolidation period.
