Part 3 – Division 6
Overview
Airport Information Provision
The proposed measure requires airport owners, operators and any other parties whose activities might affect the value of the airport, to provide information to the Minister of Transport upon request. This information will be used to support the exercise of the Minister of Transport’s authorities under the Canada Transportation Act and other Acts, or for the development of transportation policies. For example, this measure could be used to request information regarding the assessment value of an airport or the airport owner or operator.
This proposed measure supports the Government’s commitment in Budget 2025 to explore options for airport privatisation by providing the Government with the authority necessary to obtain the information needed to assess the value of an airport or the airport owner or operator. This information will be used to assess different airport ownership models, and to determine how a shift to a different model could further broaden government objectives such as affordability and economic development.
The proposed measure seeks to provide the Minister with the ability to request information in situations that warrant it. It remains that the Government of Canada will continue to collaborate with airport authorities to obtain information on a voluntary basis and as such this new authority will be a backstop in certain circumstances.
The measure will come into force upon Royal Assent.
