The proposed measure will give the Minister of Transport the authority to require airport owners, operators and parties whose activities may affect the value of the airport or its owner or operator to provide information upon request.
The information will be used to support transportation policy development, including the assessment of airport value, air transportation system capacity and development.
The proposed measure will also enable the Government to act on its Budget 2025 commitment to consider the privatisation of airports, by providing the Government with a means to obtain information needed to assess airport value for the purpose of considering different airport ownership models.
The proposed measure seeks to provide the Minister with the ability to request information in situations that warrant it. It remains that the Government of Canada will continue to collaborate with airport authorities to obtain information on a voluntary basis and as such this new authority will be a backstop in certain circumstances.
