Mandate:

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is a Crown corporation responsible for the effective and efficient screening of persons who access aircraft or restricted areas of airports through screening points, the property in their possession or control, and the belongings or baggage that they give to an air carrier for transport.

CATSA’s responsibilities fall into four major categories:

  • pre-board screening of passengers and their belongings
  • hold baggage screening through explosives detection systems at airports
  • non-passenger screening of those entering restricted airport areas
  • Restricted Area Identity Card implementation and management

CATSA relies on appropriations to cover its expenses. In fiscal year 2021/22, CATSA had $859.59 million in total funding available to fund its operations.
