A Type P620 packaging is the highest integrity packaging for the transportation of infectious substances and is used for certain infectious substances, as specified in the CAN/CGSB-43.125 standard. Identifying a Type P620 packaging
The UN marking required on the outer packaging of a Type P620 packaging is specified in section 5.1 of CAN/CGSB-43.125. The following is an example:
4G / CLASS 6.2 / 25 / CAN / ABC 8-9999
- the UN packaging symbol
- the packaging code of the outer packaging (in this example, 4G represents a fibreboard box)
- the text “CLASS 6.2”
- the last two digits of the year of manufacture (eg. 25)
- the country code for the country authorizing the use of the UN marking (e.g. “CAN”)
- the name or symbol of the manufacturer (eg. ABC) and other identification of the Type P620 packaging as specified by the country authorizing the allocation of the mark (e.g. design registration number, 8-9999 in this example)
Obtaining a Type P620 packaging
Search the TDG facilities database for Type P620 infectious substances packaging registered with Transport Canada pursuant to CAN/CGSB-43.125.
Registration
Registering a design or as a manufacturer
To register, the applicant must submit a completed application form. Once issued, the Certificate of Registration is valid for five years, after which the facility must apply for renewal.
Amending, renewing or cancelling a registration
To amend, renew or cancel a registration (including adding, changing or deleting a design) the applicant must submit a completed application form.
Quality management system requirements
A Type P620 Packaging manufacturer must have and maintain a quality management system for each facility manufacturing the packagings.
