Exemption for AME Licences expiring during the COVID-19 pandemic situation

Notice to: Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence Holders

February 22, 2021

Subject:

Exemption for AME Licences expiring during the COVID-19 pandemic situation

Purpose:

Due to circumstances related to COVID-19 and the health risk to the public, Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) has issued a new exemption affecting AME licence holders with licence expiry dates between March 1, 2020 and December 1, 2021.

This notice is an update to the notice dated August 27, 2020 on the same subject, to advise of the new exemption NCR-002-2021 and to provide information on the interim changes to the renewal process.

Interim changes:

Exemption.

The exemption allows for AME licence holders whose licence will expire or has expired between March 1, 2020 and December 1, 2021 to continue to hold a valid licence and exercise the privileges of their licence after the expiry date shown on their licence.

The new exemption NCR-002-2021 expires on December 1, 2021. TCCA will reassess the exemption in October 2021 in order to determine if another exemption will be required to include more AME licence holders whose licence will expire after December 1, 2021.

Renewals.

Despite the current circumstances, TCCA continues to accept and process AME licence renewals and print the credit card style AME licence. TCCA recommends using the exemption only if required.

To renew your AME licence, TCCA recommends completing the application form 24-0083 electronically and pay the required renewal fee of $40 by using the online payment service.  AMEs can send their application and proof of payment by email to the TCCA office in your region:
