- Group 5: Service Standards for vessel registration, inspection and certification
- The program issues letters of approval to Canadian recognized marine training institutions who have made application and who meet prerequisites for recognition as a marine training institute, or for the delivery of marine training courses or programs, for the certification of seafarers in accordance with the Marine Personnel Regulations and related procedures.
- The program monitors the delivery of approved seafarer training courses/programs by the recognized marine training institutions.
- The program maintains records on all recognized marine training institutions who have made an application.
Service standard:
- Approval of a recognized marine training institution
180 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - Initial and renewal of an Approval of a training program
120 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - (30 working days if for renewal) - Initial and renewal of an Approval of an onboard training program
120 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - (30 working days if for renewal) - Initial and renewal of an Approval of a training program for foreign administration
180 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - (60 working days if for renewal) - Initial and renewal of an Approval of a block credit course
90 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - (30 working days if for renewal) - Initial and renewal of an Approval of a training course
90 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met - (30 working days if for renewal) - Approval of an instructor
30 working days after receipt of complete application if all prerequisites are met
Performance target:
The target for achieving this standard is set at 80%.
Performance results:
Information management systems and data registers are being developed to successfully report on performance by FY 2016-17.
Apply for:
The applicant must submit its proposal for approval as a recognized marine training institution, and a course, program or instructor to the Marine Personnel Standards & Pilotage branch of Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security.
