About the Commemoration Scholarship Fund
Since the launch of the Program on October 25th, 2022, Transport Canada (TC) has undertaken one call for proposals for the stream commemorative scholarship program supporting post-secondary students studying in Canada. Universities Canada has been selected to administer the scholarship component of the Commemoration Fund that will pay tribute and reflect the Canadian victims of the ET302 flight, ensuring that each scholarship and recipient honors the victims. The $2.5-million scholarship program will be implemented over a five-year period, beginning in the 2023/24 academic year.
The scholarship administrator will:
- design a scholarship program, which will include participation of victim’s families in an award selection process
- launch a scholarship intake
- award scholarships to domestic and international students studying in a Canadian post-secondary institution
Scholarship Objectives
The overall objective of the program is to honour the memory of the victims in a visible and meaningful way and to support causes aligned with the interests and passions of the victims for environmental and humanitarian causes.
Available funding
The total amount of funding available for the Commemoration Fund is $5 million over five years. Transport Canada intends to provide $2.5 million to the scholarship fund over five years.
Stacking limits
The stacking limit establishes a maximum level of total Canadian government funding that is allowed for any activity, project, or initiative of a recipient.
The maximum level of total Canadian government funding under the Commemoration Fund (municipal, provincial, territorial, and federal) authorized by these program terms and conditions will not exceed one hundred percent (100%) of total eligible expenditures. If actual total government assistance to a recipient exceeds the stacking limit, Transport Canada will adjust its level of assistance and seek reimbursement.
