October 28, 2022
Mr. Michael Keenan
Deputy Minister
Transport Canada

Dear Michael Keenan,
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Accounts would like to inform you that, despite the dissolution of the 43rd Parliament, all requests for documents stemming from our reports adopted in the 42nd and 43rd Parliaments are expected to be addressed as required in its recommendations, as well as those stemming from the 44th Parliament.

Here is a calendar of responses stemming from the 42nd and 43rd Parliaments expected from Transport
Canada:

43rd Parliament, 2nd Session
Report 3 – Follow-up Audit on
the Transportation of
Dangerous Goods
Recommendation 1 31 December 2021 and 2022
Recommendation 3 30 June 2022, 31 December 2022, 30 June
2023, 31 December 2023, 30 June 2024,
and 31 December 2024
Recommendation 5 31 January 2022
Report 21 – Follow-up Audit on
Rail Safety
Recommendation 1 28 February 2023
Recommendation 6 31 October 2022

The Committee has agreed to extend to your department the option to either provide the responses whose deadline have already occurred (in bold characters in the calendar) no later than 15 November 2022 in a letter or to appear before the Committee to do so in person.
Related to Recommendation 2 in, Report 3 – Follow-up Audit on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, the Committee is satisfied with the response provided in April 2022, which states that the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Program’s new Regulatory Oversight Management “has fully addressed Recommendation 2 by providing a means to verify and document the compliance status of dangerous goods sites.” Therefore, the required responses for 2023 and 2024 related to that recommendation will no longer be needed.

Should you have any questions regarding this request, please contact Cédric Taquet, Clerk of the Committee.

Best regards,
John Williamson
Chairman, Standing Committee on Public Accounts

I would like to thank you for your letter dated October 28, 2022, regarding reports being sought by the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

Should the Committee re-adopt Report 3, Follow-up Audit on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and request follow-up reports, the department would be pleased to respond.

Sincerely,
Michael Keenan, Deputy Minister of Transport
