Small Vessel Monitoring & Inspection Program

Under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001, section 106, the safety of a vessel and anyone on board is the responsibility of the authorized representative (owner).

Giving your vessel a thorough review on a regular basis will help you to meet your regulatory requirements and may identify potential problems early, thereby reducing cost of repair.

Transport Canada understands that small non-pleasure vessel owners want to operate safely and in compliance with the regulations, and it is our role to provide you with support and guidance.

The Program is designed to provide support and guidance for small non-pleasure vessels that:

  • Measure 0-15 gross tons
  • Carry 0-12 passengers
  • Are not used solely for recreational purposes

Coming soon … The Small Vessel Monitoring Inspection Program is being updated and will be re-named the Small Vessel Compliance Program (Non-Pleasure Craft). The Small Vessel Compliance Program (Non-Pleasure Craft) will continue to provide easy-to-use tools and guidelines for small non-pleasure vessel owners, along with improvements to communications and service delivery, including an updated website.
