FUNDING FOR THE ASIA-PACIFIC GATEWAY AND CORRIDOR TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE FUND

Requesting $4,428,515 for the 2020-2021 Supplementary Estimates B

The Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Transportation Infrastructure Fund is seeking access to $4,428,515 in contribution funding for the fiscal year 2020-21.

Key Messages:

  • Funding for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI) was provided in Budget 2006, with the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Transportation Infrastructure Fund (APGCTIF) being a component of the APGCI.  
  • The merit-based program is designed to enhance Canada’s economic competitiveness and productivity. It funds projects that support efficient and integrated supply chains and improve the flow of goods between Canada and the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The funds are used to support transportation infrastructure projects and related initiatives that develop and enhance the efficiency and capacity of Canada’s transportation system in moving international commerce with the Asia-Pacific region
  • Investments in strategic transportation infrastructure help to reduce bottlenecks and build more efficient and fluid trade corridors with the Asia-Pacific region that will benefit all Canadians.


    Background

The objectives of the APGCTIF include funding projects that improve transportation infrastructure by increasing transportation capacity; improve transportation infrastructure by reducing congestion at key western gateways and corridors; improve transportation infrastructure by improving connections between modes; improve transportation infrastructure by mitigating the negative impacts associated with transportation.
