CANADIAN TRANSPORTATION AGENCY (CTA)
Requesting $11,085,060 for the 2020-2021 Supplementary Estimates (B)
The CTA is seeking access to $11,085,060 in planned spending authorities.
Key Messages:
- The $11,085,060 funding provided in the 2020-2021 Supplementary Estimates (B) gives the CTA the authority to enter into commitments of $ 44,616,006 in the current fiscal year.
- $7.5M of the funding in Supplementary Estimates (B) is part of $18M in additional funding over two years provided to the CTA in the 2020 Economic and Fiscal Snapshot.
- The CTA is an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal and regulator that oversees the very large and complex Canadian transportation system, which is essential to the economic and social well-being of Canadians.
- $7.5M of this funding better positions the CTA to respond to a higher number of air passenger and accessibility-related complaints. The Economic and Fiscal Snapshot, announced funding of $18M over two years to "enable the CTA to continue to provide timely dispute resolution services to Canadians when they are unable to resolve issues directly with service providers."
- $3,5M of this funding provided in Supplementary Estimates (B) is a re-profiling of already approved funds from 2019-2020. This funding is required for the CTA to move to new offices at 60 Laval in Gatineau, scheduled for Summer 2021.
- With these funds, the CTA will have an increased capacity to assist Canadians with air passenger protection and accessibility-related complaints.
Background
The Supplementary Estimates (B) reflect an increase of $11,085,060 over previous years to fund the modernization of the CTA.
