Who must register?
If you or your organization imports, offers for transport, handles, or transports dangerous goods in Canada, you may have to register.
You do not have to register if all the dangerous goods at any of your sites are under one of the following exemptions:
- DG activities originating from outside Canada and passing through Canada to a destination outside Canada without any handling being done in Canada;
- DG activities across the border, but you do not have headquarters or own or operate a site in Canada;
- Operation of oil wells;
- "Special Case" exemption under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR), except a 500kg gross mass exemption.
The easiest way to find out if you need to register is by using our questionnaire.
When do you register?
You have one (1) year from the regulations (October 25, 2023) coming into force to register your organization. This timeframe allows for a transition period and provides opportunity for persons and organizations to familiarize themselves with the new regulatory requirements and gather necessary information for registration.
