Initial registration

Register your organization and sites

To register your organization and sites:

  1. sign-in to the database using either GCKey or an online partner:
    1. Government of Canada Key (GCKey)
    2. Sign-In Partner Learn more about Sign-In Partner and GCKey
  2. consult the TC CID Platform User Guide for details, refer to Initial Registration section

Learn how to easily navigate and register in the Client Identification Database with our step-by-step point and click tutorial.

Website

On the Transport Canada website, select the Dangerous Goods tab.

Select the Client Identification Database (CID) tab. Resources to assist with registration can be found on the CID Landing Page.

To begin registration, select Register or log in to CID.

GCKey

If a GCKey is not available, select Sign up for a GCKey. Otherwise, choose one of the other two options to sign in. Select Sign Up.

Accept the GCKey terms and conditions and create a username, password, and security questions while ensuring all criteria are met.

Enter an account recovery email. This step is optional and will be skipped for this video.

Account Information

Enter the email for the registration. This will be the email associated to the primary contact’s account.

Accept the CID terms and conditions.

Enter the account information such as first and last name, business phone number, and language of correspondence. Check the box to agree to the Privacy Statement and select Update.

Step 1 Start

For this video, a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Business Number will be entered. If one is not available, select No from the Organization has a CRA Business Number dropdown and enter the required information. Select Next.

A pop-up will appear with information regarding the organization. Select the This is my Organization button

Step 2 Organization

A summary of the organization’s information is shown. The operating name and address fields can be edited. Select Next

Step 3 Contacts

The organization’s contacts are shown here. At least ONE secondary contact must be added before proceeding. Select Add Contact.

Enter the required information of the secondary contact such as first and last name, email, business phone number, and language of correspondence. Check the box to agree to the Privacy Statement and select Submit.

An email will be sent to the secondary contact to give access to the registration. Select Next.

Step 4 NAICS

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is an optional step. Select Add NAICS Code. Enter up to the first two (2) digits of the NAICS code, choose a code from the dropdown list and select Submit and Close. Select Next.

Step 5 Organization Summary

Confirm the organization details and information are correct. Select Submit.

Step 6 Sites

The organization’s list of sites is shown here. Select Add Site.

Enter the site’s account information such as site name, address type, and address. Select Save.

Check the boxes of the site’s Dangerous Goods activities. Select Next.

Check the boxes of the site’s Mode(s) of Transportations. Select Next.

The site’s classes/divisions list is shown here. Select Add Class. From the dropdown menu, choose the site’s associated class/division and compatibility group if required and select Submit and Close. Select Next.

Confirm the site details and information are correct. Select Attest Site Data.

Once all sites are added, select Next.

Step 7 Completion

Confirm the organization and site’s information is entered correctly. Select Attest and Complete Registration.

Annual Renewal

Once registration is complete, the Annual Renewal date will be set one (1) year after the completion date.
