The Oceans Protection Plan is working with Indigenous and Inuit peoples to create new opportunities to protect, preserve, and restore Canada’s oceans and sea routes. The Marine Training Program strives to improve access to jobs in Canada’s marine industry for members of Northern communities, Inuit and Indigenous peoples.

Removing abandoned and wrecked vessels from Canadian waters is one way under the Oceans Protection Plan we are helping to protect and preserve Our Coasts. So far, we have assessed and removed over 220 abandoned boats.

The Ocean Protection Plan’s Enhanced Maritime Situational Awareness initiative is creating an accessible and near real-time common operating picture for coastal communities.

Did you know that under the Oceans Protection Plan we are using state-of-the-art recorders to listen to underwater noise? This includes marine mammal activity and shipping noise. These recorders provide us with the ability to better understand how underwater noise impacts the marine environment.

Transport Canada’s RPAS project is a contribution to the integration of this technology into Canadian airspace and the regulatory development for Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations.
